How I Stopped Sitting for 10 Hours Straight (Without a Gym)

No gym membership required. Just a few intentional habits that changed how my body feels at the end of a workday.

I used to end every workday feeling like my body had aged ten years. My hips were tight, my lower back ached, and I had a tension headache that started somewhere around 2pm and didn't leave until I went to sleep. I wasn't sedentary by choice — I just got absorbed in work and suddenly it was 6pm and I hadn't moved in hours. The problem wasn't motivation, it was that I had no system. I was relying on willpower to interrupt my own focus, and that never works.

What actually changed things for me was tying movement to things I was already doing. Every time I got up to refill my water, I did ten squats. Every time I finished a task and marked it off my list, I stood up and stretched for sixty seconds. I set a recurring reminder at the top of every hour that just said 'stand up.' None of these things required a gym, equipment, or even changing clothes. Within two weeks my back pain was gone and I had more energy in the afternoons than I'd had in years.
